It would be better to switch to using send_templated_mail, with support for the legacy template names. This way there's no chance existing installations with customised templates revert back to default templates.

Ok. This modification was done to quickly implement another patch and should have not been proposed as a patch.
Then I prefered to keep using send_registration_mail proposing a patch to support legacy names: #10635.
If it is ok, I will set this ticket as rejected.
